CalAgenda down briefly at 10 p.m.: We will be rebooting the computer that houses CalAgenda tonight at 10 p.m. The system will be down for now more than 10 minutes. If you are logged on, you will be logged off, and new logons will not be accepted. This procedure is intended to provided a short-term fix for the slow response times CalAgenda has been experiencing lately.
CalAgenda's slow response time: We are investigating causes and solutions for CalAgenda's continued slow response time. We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this issue. We'll update this page when we have more information.
CalAgenda will be unavailable Monday, April 7, 2008. This outage is necessary to correct the problems with slowness the system has been experiencing. We have determined that the slowness arises from congested access to the system's data storage. The CalAgenda data will be moved to new storage that will be easier to access. We apologize for any inconvenience created by this outage.
CalAgenda will be unavailable Sunday, October 21, 2007 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. This outage is necessary to connect the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory calendar server to CalAgenda. Connecting the two calendars will allow calendar users on either system to view calendars and organize meetings with users on the other system. For more information, see the IST Knowledge Base article, "CalAgenda and LBNL integrating calendars".
Announcing the web-based tool to administer departmental accounts at http://calagenda-admin.berkeley.edu/loginUsing this aapplication, CalAgenda departmental account administrators can perform many functions themselves that used to be handled by email request. Admins can reset passwords and close all user (not resource) accounts. They can also open CalNet-linked accounts.
There will be a service outage for CalAgenda on Saturday, July 14, between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon. This is to perform some critical upgrade/testing work to the Fibre Channel paths used by the Storage Area Network CalAgenda uses. We're sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

This morning, CalAgenda is experiencing serious systemwide issues. You will be able to view your calendar but not create any new events. We anticipate this condition will continue until at least 2 p.m. today. We are working hard to correct this error. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Outlook users in particular may experience long delays upon logging in due to Outlook waiting for CalAgenda. It should eventually time out and open without the CalAgenda connection. If it does not, please contact consult@berkeley.edu for help.
Oracle has just released patches that correct some Daylight Saving Time (DST) problems with the Palm OS and possibly Windows Mobile devices. The issue may cause some devices to display meetings on March 8-10 one hour later, although these meetings will appear at their correct time on the desktop or web client.
The patches will be applied to the Oracle Calendar server, Avantgenda, Sunday morning, March 4, 2007, between 8 AM and noon. The CalAgenda server will be updated Wednesday evening, March 7, 2007 between 8 PM and midnight. Do not try to sync your device during these times.
See the Knowledge Base article Updating Palm and Windows Mobile devices to work with new DST CalAgenda patches for instructions and further information.
Do you have events scheduled between March 11 and April 1 and October 28 and November 4 this year? If so, those events may be one hour later than you intended. Please check them. You may have to adjust them.
Daylight Savings Time adjustments for 2007. On Friday, December 29, the CalAgenda server was upgraded to apply the new daylight savings time rules for 2007 and subsequent years. As a result, events which were already scheduled to start between the new and old DST start dates, and between the new and old DST end dates, may appear one hour later than intended. Check the Daylight Savings document in the Knowledge Base for the details.
CalAgenda upgrade scheduled for December 29, 2006. The CalAgenda server will be unavailable from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon to upgrade the server from version 9 to 10 of Oracle Calendar. Check System Status for the status of the upgrade on that day.
Holiday Schedule. The CalAgenda service runs 24/7 and will remain operational throughout the curtailment period. However, email sent to the CalAgenda-Admin or the CalAgenda-TechSupport mailing list and received after 5 PM, Thursday, December 21, 2006, will not be read until Tuesday, January 2, 2007.

Curtailment period schedule (December 26-December 30): The CalAgenda service runs 24/7 and will remain operational throughout the curtailment period. However, email sent to CalAgenda-Admin or the CalAgenda-TechSupport mailing list after 5 p.m., Friday, December 23, 2005, will not be read until Monday, January 2, 2006.
Due to communication problems between the Avantgenda and CalAgenda servers, both servers will be taken down for maintenance tonight. We expect them back in operation by 6 AM tomorrow morning.
The CalAgenda service recently began using the CalNet directory information. For further information, see CalNet Directory Use with CalAgenda Information.
Contact your departmental CalAgenda support provider if you have questions. You can look up your support provider at http://calagendat.berkeley.edu/help_training/support_providers/.
The CalAgenda service will begin using the CalNet directory tomorrow, Tuesday, September 13, 2005. For further information, see CalNet Directory Use with CalAgenda Information.
We anticipate two common questions as a result of this change:
Contact your departmental CalAgenda support provider if you have questions. You can look up your support provider at http://calagendat.berkeley.edu/help_training/support_providers/.
The CalAgenda service will begin using the CalNet directory on Tuesday, September 13, 2005. The technical problem has been fixed. For further information, see CalNet Directory Use with CalAgenda Information.
DELAY: The CalAgenda service will -not- begin using the CalNet directory on Thursday, August 4th as previously announced. A technica l problem has caused a delay. When we are satisfied the problem has been solved, we will announce a new date for implementing the use of the CalNet directory.
DELAY: Due to a technical problem, there will be a t wo day delay until the CalAgenda service can begin using the CalNet directory -- Thursday, August 4th.
REMINDER: One Week until the CalAgenda service begin s using the CalNet directory -- Tuesday, August 2nd.
CalAgenda directory synchronization with the campus CalNet directory is on track to be implemented and live on Tuesday, August 2nd. A few people will have slight changes in their account log in name, and a few others will have changes to their email addresses. Support providers for their groups will be notified of the specific accounts affected by these changes prior to the actual implementation date.
For information on where to see your directory information which will be used starting August 2nd, see CalNet Directory Use by CalAgenda Information. If your telephone number or other information is not up-to-date in the campus directory, you can update your listing.
Departmental developers wishing to integrate their applications with the CalAgenda service will find assistance in doing this at Web Services interface to the CalAgenda service.
CalNet Directory Synchronization Information
Current security information for the CalAgenda service is available at Security Standards.
CalAgenda and Avantgenda will be down from midnight to 4 a.m. on Sunday morning, March 20, 2005 for routine maintenance.
What's coming to CalAgenda? What is the CalAgenda Service team working on 'behind the scenes'? What new features and service enhancements will be arriving in the coming months? Here is a brief overview.
Mail lists down: Our mail list server has not come up successfully after its move from Evans Hall to 2195 Hearst. We are working to get it up as soon as possible. However, the Tech Support and Admin lists are not available at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Holiday schedule
CalAgenda-Admin and CalAgenda-TechSupport mailing lists. Email received after 12 noon on Friday, December 17, 2004, will not be read until Monday, January 2, 2005.
Service team move scheduleAs you may remember, we moved the servers, including those for the CalAgenda service, from the basement of Evans Hall to the new building last June. Only a few of the staff in Evans who support those servers moved to the new building at that time.
The remainder of server/service support staff are scheduled to move in early January in two 'waves.' The CalAgenda support team is scheduled to be moved on Saturday, January 8th. This means we have to be packed up (including our telephones and computers) and ready to be moved on Friday, January 7th and will then be unpacking our computers, etc. on Monday, January 10th. As a consequence, we do not plan to be looking at the CalAgenda-Admin and CalAgenda-TechSupport mailing lists on either Friday, January 7th or Monday, January 10th.
Our email addresses and phone numbers are moving with us to the new building so you will be able to send or leave messages for us as usual during the move, and we will make every effort to respond to your requests and questions as soon as possible after we get 'hooked up' again.
We plan to move to a new CalAgenda server this weekend. If all goes as planned, those of you with accounts on this server will not need to make any changes to your client settings. Hopefully, the only thing you may notice as a result of this move is improved performance.
The process will start about 11:30 PM this Saturday night, November 13th, and end by noon on Sunday. During that time the CalAgenda server will be inaccessible.
If we have any problem, our fallback schedule is to make the change the following weekend.
Many of you have noticed entries in your calendars for Academic Calendar milestones. These were intended to be added as day events (non-timed entries), but a glitch occurred in their addition, which caused them to appear as meetings. We are working to fix the situation.
Downtime on Sunday, August 8, 2004: The CalAgenda and Avantgenda servers will be down on Sunday, August 8, from approximately midnight to 4 a.m. to upgrade the server software.
The CalAgenda server will be down this weekend from midnight - 9 a.m. Saturday, July 31 for maintenance.
Both the CalAgenda and Avantgenda servers will be unavailable from 6 a.m. - noon on Sunday, August 1 due to power shutdown in the central Data Center. This is a highly unusual event caused by a manufacturer recall of a component of the electrical system.
The servers have been successfully moved and are back in operation.
DATA CENTER MOVE - Get up-to-date information during the move at the o ffsite Web page http://systemstatus.berkeley.edu.
| June 18th - 5PM - all Workstation Support Services servers will start being moved. This will affect all software downloads from the CalAgenda and Avantgenda servers. | June 25th - 5 PM - the CalAgenda and Avantgenda servers, including their Web sites, will start being moved. Our best estimate is to expect these servers to be back online by noon the next day or Sunday at the latest. |
For more information, see http://dcmove.berkeley.edu/schedule.html.
The CalAgenda service will be down from midnight to 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 16, 2004 so that maintenance can be performed on the server. Users on the avantgenda server will be unaffected.
Software downloads for CalAgenda client software are currently unavailable. Attempts will receive a response of "Unable to read authentication response from CalAgenda." We are working to correct the problem.
Avantgenda is back up.
Avantgenda is currently down while we consult with Oracle about ongoing problems with access between the Avantgenda and CalAgenda servers.
Both the CalAgenda and Avantgenda servers will be unavailable from midnight to 4 a.m. on Sunday, February 15 to install additional calendar server software upgrades.
The CalAgenda service will be unavailable from midnight to 9 a.m. on Sunday, February 8 to upgrade the calendar server's software.
As you all know, we continue to have problems with a sluggish Calagenda server since upgrading to calendar software version 9.0.4.1. We have escalated our software problems to the highest levels in Oracle and are getting major attention although pinpointing our problems is proving difficult.
The CalAgenda server will be down from midnight to 9 a.m., Sunday, February 1 for more maintenance work.
There was a snag in completing the maintenance planned for last weekend. As a result, we are still seeing intermittent performance problems that we are working to fix. We will continue to keep you informed.
The CalAgenda server will be down this Sunday, January 25, from midnight-9 a.m. for maintenance work on the server. The Avantgenda test server will be down from approximately midnight-1:00 a.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The problems related to downloading calendar software have been fixed, and downloads are again available.
The CalAgenda service email problem is fixed.
The CalAgenda service is currently experiencing difficulties sending email. We are working on th is problem. Thanks for your patience!
Winter break service: Email received by the CalAgenda Admin and Tech Support mailing lists after noon on Friday, December 19, 2003, will not be read until Monday, January 5, 2004.
CalAgenda will be down from 1:30 a.m. - 8 a.m. Saturday, December 13. We will be performing the monthly maintenance normally done in the Sunday morning time slot, which is needed for the server upgrade mentioned below.
CalAgenda will be down Sunday, December 7 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. to apply software patches.
CalAgenda will be down Sunday, December 14 from midnight to noon for server software upgrades.
Winter break service: Email received by the CalAgenda Admin and Tech Support mailing lists after noon on Friday, December 19, 2003, will not be read until Monday, January 5, 2004.
Security patches will be installed on both the avantgenda and calagenda servers this Sunday, 18th of May, between 8 and 11 AM. While the patches are being installed calendars will not be available.
We expect installation on the calagenda server to begin and finish before the avantgenda server. Work on the avantgenda server may start before the calagenda server work is finished.
Both server web sites will be affected by this work.
The CalAgenda server will be shutdown at 9 PM tonight for about 1 hour to replace a piece of hardware that is giving error messages and may be failing.
Both CalAgenda and Avantgenda will be down for maintenance from midnight to about 7 AM this Sunday morning, 20 April.
Although the CalAgenda service will remain up and running during the UC Berkeley holiday curtailment period (12/24/2002-1/1/2003), e-mail sent to the service after December 19, 2002 will not be read until January 2, 2003. The CalAgenda service team wishes you all a happy holiday.
Steltor has three new products that make up their "CorporateTime To Go" package - Wireless Data Server, Mobile Edition and SyncServer. Download a PDF document about these products.
The CalAgenda Service Team will be performing special maintenance on the CalAgenda server during the weekend of May 4-5. We do not anticipate any downtime during normal business hours. However, the service will be down from midnight Saturday through 8 a.m. Sunday morning. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The downtime is required to apply a patch to the CalAgenda server that will alleviate some recent slowdowns in the system. The slowdowns have arisen as a result of some problems in the system related to the new Windows 6.0 client and the CorporateTime Outlook Connector. We believe applying the patch will result in improved system performance. Thank you for your patience!
CalAgenda will be unavailable from 5:00 to 9:00 AM this Sunday, March 3. There will be a shut down of a power panel in the Evans Hall computer room. This panel supplies power to the CalAgenda server as well as a number of other campus servers.
The power to the Avantgenda server will -not- be affected so it will be available.
Avantgenda will be out of service from midnight Saturday, December 15, until about 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 16. We are going to be doing some work on Avantgenda this weekend that will allow the server to begin using LDAP.
CalAgenda-Admin and CalAgenda-TechSupport mailing lists. Electronic mail received after 12 noon on Thursday, December 20, will not be read until Wednesday, January 2, 2002.
We will be moving the CalAgenda calendar server back to the revamped CalAgenda server hardware this Sunday. This means accounts on the CalAgenda server will NOT be accessible from approximately 6 AM - noon this Sunday, 9 September. If the move proceeds along well, the accounts will be accessible sooner. We'll send a note to the Tech Support list when the server is ready.
Thanks very much for your patience!
The saying "the best-laid plans of mice and men go oft astray" fits our situation regarding the move of accounts back to the revamped calagenda server. The move which was scheduled for this weekend, August 19th, will be delayed until next weekend. We expect to post the revised date and time of the move on Monday or Tuesday.
There have been some delays in the upgrading of the calagenda server. Here is the revised timetable.
Accounts on the calagenda server will be unavailable during the follow ing times:
Sunday, August 12, approximately 7 - 9 a.m.: upgrade the CorporateTime server software
Sunday, August 19, 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.: Move calagenda accounts back to t he revamped calagenda server
We appreciate your assistance and patience with the service while we make the se improvements.
To provide continual service, we will move the CorporateTime accounts and dat a residing on the calagenda server to another server for a week, rebuild the sof tware and hardware structure on calagenda and then move the accounts and data ba ck onto the calagenda server. Then we will upgrade the server and Web client sof tware.
This is quite a bit to change all at once so we are doing it in three stages.
1) Sunday, August 5, from approximately 6 AM - noon: Move calagenda accounts to the another server and upgrade Web client sof tware.
The calagenda server IP address will also be moved so your current software sett ings should work as usual.
2) Sunday, August 12, from approximately 6 AM - 12 noon: Move calagenda accounts back to the calagenda server.
The IP address will be moved back to calagenda and the new directory structure a nd RAID system will be in place.

We will keep you posted on these moves should anything unanticipated happen. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.
The CalAgenda web site has a new look. It's more than skin deep. The structure has been changed to make the information most needed more easily accessible.
A few noteworthy changes from the old site:
