Naming Your Resources

Resources in Oracle Calendar can be locations, shared schedules, or objects (for example, lab equipment, computers, cars, overhead projectors, etc.) As with information about people, resource information is stored in the Oracle Calendar directory. Here is an example of directory information for a resource on CalAgenda:

Also see Naming conventions, searching, and other helpful information on CalAgenda resources and CalAgenda Tips: Setting up a resource for further information.

Naming Conventions

Each resource in Oracle Calendar is identified by a Resource Name and a Resource Number, both of which can be any alphanumeric string. Because the slash ("/") has special meaning to Oracle Calendar, we have decided to not use this character in these fields. The assignment of resource names and numbers follow this convention:

For locations

Resource Name: <Building> <(room number or room name)> <Type>
Resource Number: <Room> or <Description>
Note the (mandatory) use of parentheses around the room number or room name.

For shared schedules

Resource Name: <Department> <Description>
Resource Number: Schedule

For objects

Resource Name: <Department> <Description>
Resource Number: <Anything>

Some examples are (Resource name / resource number):

Evans Hall (220) Conference Room / 220
Barrows Hall (60) Conference Room / 60
IST-WSS-DOCS Consulting / Schedule
IST-STP-IU Epson Projector / <blank>
IST-WSS-WSSG PowerBook / Macintosh PB3400

Sending Your Resource Information to the CalAgenda Service

You can submit your list of resources in a tab-delimited file. Each line should contain information about one resource. Each field in the line is separated from the preceding field by a tab character (represented as "<t>" in the illustration below):

OldFirstName<t>OldLastName<t>NewName<t>Number

Field meanings in the tab-delimited file

File Field Meaning
OldFirstName The Meeting Maker "First Name" of a resource you are importing into Oracle Calendar. If you are submitting an initial list of new resources (that is, not converting from Meeting Maker), leave this field blank.
OldLastName The Meeting Maker "Last Name" of a resource you are importing into Oracle Calendar. If you are submitting an initial list of new resources (that is, not converting from Meeting Maker), leave this field blank.
NewName The name you want the resource to have in Oracle Calendar.
Number The number for the resource in Oracle Calendar.
