Faculty and staff are eligible for CalAgenda accounts, as are students whose department will pay for their account. Subscription to the service is by department or group only as we require a chart of account string to bill units for the service.
Several types of accounts are available.
1. Individual accounts are created at the request of a department or group for their staff, faculty, students and affiliates who appear in the campus directory. These accounts are administered following provisions of the University of California Electronic Communications Policy (ECP). Account owners control access by others to information in their account. For reasons of privacy, ownership of an individual account cannot be transferred.
When an employee leaves a department, his or her account is disabled, leaving the license available for another employee in the department to use for a new account. Individuals who move to another department may re-enable their account provided that the new department agrees to pay for the account.
2. Role accounts are for calendars to be shared by a group or to provide calendar services for a departmental function, such as "director's assistant," "scheduler" or other appropriate functional (non-personal) category. The role account may keep track of dates for a whole group. These accounts enable departments to manage calendar functions without the limitations of policy restrictions protecting the privacy of individual accounts.
3. Affiliate accounts are created for individuals who are not in the campus directory. Usually these people are consultants or contractors who the department chooses not to put in the campus directory.
4. Resource calendars, such as conference rooms, classrooms, projectors, laptops, etc., can also be set up on CalAgenda. Unlike individual accounts, resource accounts are normally set up so they cannot be "double-booked." In other words, only one event can be scheduled at any particular time. If you'd like a resource to be double-booked, we can change the settings to allow it. There is no charge for these accounts.
There are several ways to publish calendars to the Web.
To publish a graphical calendar (looks like Oracle Calendar):
1. Public accounts can be used to publicize a calendar such as departmental schedule of seminars via the Web. However, events listed in a public account/calendar can have no attendees. There is no charge for this type of account.
2. Using the Global Agenda Viewing preference (under Security) in any individual, role, or resource account, individuals can permit the viewing of their calendar via the Web provided other people know the URL. Events listed in these accounts may have attendees that will be seen on the Web.
To publish a text-only calendar:
3. Existing individual, role, and resource accounts can be published to the Web as text-only versions via MARC (Meeting And Resource Calendar). The MARC service converts the graphic calendar data to text once a day. The textural information can be supplemented by other details, such as reservation information. MARC publication to the Web is set up centrally with the cooperation of the requesting group's assistance. See http://calagenda.berkeley.edu/marc/index.html for examples.
Comparison of some features of individual, role, resource, and public accounts
Note: To use a resource account whose double-book feature is set, you must be using Oracle Calendar desktop client version 9.0.4.2 or later or the Web client. Earlier versions did not include this feature.
